The Exodus Plagues as De-Creation?

Peter Leithart on Psalm 105 and the plagues of Exodus... "the summary begins in darkness (reversing the first day of creation) and ends with the death of firstborn sons (reversing the sixth day of creation)"

De-creating Egypt whilst re-creating the universe with his own firstborn at the centre of it? A new humanity being brought to the mountain of the Lord... Interesting.

  1. Hence the number ten? Like the ten times it says 'God said' in Genesis 1. And like the ten words of re-creation God speaks at Sinai.

I think the commentary by Fretheim on exodus (interpreter's series) is pretty good on these creation connections, though he frustrates with his almost-open theism at other times in the same volume.
