UK: What do we believe? Evolutionism? Creationism? Lilyallenism?

The UK belief map on creationism, intelligent design, evolution and all that...

"Four out of five Britons repudiate creationism. Belief map shows support for Darwin's theories. God and evolution can be compatible, says thinktank"

Useful to be aware of what people are thinking.

And Emily posts on Lily Allen The Fear that 'everyone' has been buying for the last five weeks... who knows how widespread this worldview is either, but it seems to capture something of 'pop' culture of wags and mags...
"Now I’m not a saint, but I’m not a sinner, Now everything's cool as long as I’m getting thinner, I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore, I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore, When do you think it will all become clear? 'Cos I’m being taken over by the fear..."

  1. That's fascinating - and the map on the face of it is quite deceptive, because you'd think that a majority thought that evolution removes the need for a god - whereas, in most if not all areas, the majority of people are at least deist (combine ID, creationism & evolutionary creationism).

  2. Yeh doesn't seem to be more that 30-40% going for the full-blown atheist-evolution point of view. The ways a headline can spin a story!

  3. the joy of statistics...and what to do with them ;-)

  4. Oooh! I'm gonna have to throw this into the mixer when my year 9's look at Evolution/Creationism next week! I wonder what they'll make of it!

  5. Mr Wiggins! Come back and let us know.

  6. It's fascinating what the majority of people want to believe in. Seems like no one on the chart believes on the creationalism concept anymore.
