Global Broadcast

On Easter morning Piers spoke at our church on Luke 24v46-47.

Firstly about the proof of Jesus' resurrection - they saw him, he spoke and he ate with his friends. They were eye-witnesses of his resurrection.

Secondly, about the promise of Jesus' resurrection:

"...and [Jesus] said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem." - Luke 24v46-47

Repentance and forgiveness of sins proclaimed to all nations. A promise being fulfilled today! Repentance means turning around, from idols to God. This is what God's word had been promising. Beginning with Moses and all the prophets their testimony had rung out together... and Luke carefully surveyed the evidence to present it in his gospel. This is Jesus, we can have certainty.

The message of the church is then repentance and forgiveness of sins, because of Jesus' death and resurrection. This is our message, for global broadcast by teaching the Bible.
"Legalistic repentance takes sin to Mt. Sinai,
gospel repentance to Mt. Calvary"
- Tim Keller (HT: Dan Cruver)

There can be a wrong repentance, one that gets condemned and attempts to perform. Right repentance comes to the Cross of Christ for forgiveness. We're not called to guilt and condemnation, but to come to the cross for life. We bring no excuses, no explanation. We carry only our sin to the cross. The truly repentant receive certain forgiveness.
