Wise words from the Doctor

"People who say they do not hold to any particular system, and that they are 'just biblical,' are simply confessing that they have never really understood the teaching of the Bible."
(D.Martyn Lloyd-Jones. Romans 7:1-8:4, p. 178).
I remember coming across a student a while back who pleaded that we just needed to believe that Jesus is the Son of God and forget about doctrine.... Many thanks to Phil Johnson for highlighting this. Still processing Terry Virgo's preaching on Romans 7, which he admits is very influenced by Lloyd-Jones. Must take Terry's advice and get some more of that Romans series (since I only have The Righteous Judgement of God: Romans 2:1-3:20 at the moment).

  1. Isn't believing that Jesus is the Son of God a very 'doctrinal' statement in itself?!

  2. Yeah,.... thats exactly what I tried to point out... and yet people keep on trying to draw this distinction.

    I suppose theres a bit anti-theological / anti-intellectualism thing going on.
